Accessible Tours
Blog – 20th January 2021.
We are always developing our tours and services to suit all travellers no matter what their needs or requirements. Our private tours of Scotland can be designed to suit travellers with access issues, hearing impairment, special dietary requests or visual impairment. Throughout the last few years, we have introduced our local flavours themed tours. A move which sees us focus on off the beaten track places, natural beauty from a local’s perspective and hidden gems including our amazing heritage. We are committed to making these places available to every guest. We have included, on our website, an Accessibility Guide Accessible Tours of Scotland – James Campbell Tours
Since we started our Scotland tours business in 2005, we have toured with clients who require special arrangements due to a disability. We have always accommodated our guests no matter what their needs are, and we look forward to continuing this service once travel gets going again. Scotland, The UK and Ireland have excellent facilities for travellers with disabilities and we can take advantage of all these places to bring you a tour full of exploration and discovery, with amazing food and drink thrown in too!
We travel the landscapes of Scotland, the UK and Ireland with ease in our luxury vehicles. We can get you up close to the best sights; we can stop whenever you require us to, we can escort you around castles and ancient places and we help you with relevant safety procedures. We love getting out into the countryside, and we know paths in the highlands which are wheelchair friendly that offer beautiful views.
The Volkswagen Transporter has a huge space for luggage and is high enough to accommodate electric as well as manual wheelchairs. We provide steps to help access into the vehicle and we can, on most occasions, get access right to the front of accommodation and attractions.
We are currently working on a tour of the Scottish Highlands and the Orkney Isles for 2022, for a client who has mobility challenges. We are providing a manual wheelchair and we have put an itinerary together which includes most of our favourite places in these parts of Scotland. We will be visiting amazing Neolithic sites including Skara Brae and The Ring of Brodgar on the Orkney Isles. Skara Brae | Leading Public Body for Scotland's Historic Environment We will be visiting the amazing landscapes of the North West Highlands in Wester Ross and we have included castles, which we know are accessible, and offer an authentic experience. We have booked accommodation with accessible rooms and have recommended and booked quality restaurants with access. This is just one of many tours we have designed for our clients, and we are happy to have made connections where we know our clients will be well looked after.
Our Vehicles
Our luxury mini vans have enough space in the boot (trunk) to take an electric wheelchair or a folding wheelchair and walking frame. We can provide a manual wheelchair for our tours if necessary.
There is just one step to get into our vehicles. The distance from the ground to the step is 40cm (16 inches) and we can provide a smaller step to bridge that gap if needed. There are grab handles to help you get into the vehicles.
Once in our vehicles you will be seated comfortably in a captain style seat.
We provide child seats for all age ranges.
We can enhance the audio on our tours through our loudspeakers.
Our vehicles are air conditioned and you have access to wifi.
Pick up and Drop off Points
We pick you up and drop you off at your accommodation. We can pick you up and offer a meet and greet at your arrival point - airport, train station, ferry terminal, cruise port or other arrival point.
On Tour
We can design a fully accessible tour where the attractions and historic places we visit are equipped, giving you access to the most amazing places.
When we visit historic tourist attractions, we will explain accessibility and safety procedures.
We can book accommodation which offers accessible and ground floor rooms. Many guest houses offer accessible rooms on the ground floor and we can book hotels with lifts (elevators).
When on tour we can get closer access to the entrance of attractions and restaurants, and we can arrange to have you picked up at a convenient point where possible.
We can cater to dietary and allergy requests, please let us know when booking with us.
When you tour Scotland, Ireland or any of our destinations with us, you are our guests, and we apply the same ethos to all – get off the beaten track and find your spirit of adventure. We design our tours so to give you a true flavour and a once-in-a-lifetime experience. We discover culture, history, famous sites and hidden gems too. Let us design, plan and book your private tour of Scotland, Ireland and the UK and you will enjoy some of the best travel experiences no matter your travel needs.
