Private Travel for All.
Scotland Travel Blog – 24th March 2021.
When travel returns later in 2021 and 2022, and people start looking at touring vacations, the private touring option will be more appealing than ever. We have been specialists in designing private and tailor-made tours of Scotland since 2005, and we are getting ready for an increase in enquiries.
Private and tailor-made touring is, by far, the finest way to travel. It is the personal service that is one of the best features of this type of travel - a tour that goes at your pace, is designed to your interests, must see sights and preferences.
When you book a tour with us, we always ask, “what are your must-see sights”? We all have our own reasons for visiting a country, and we want to know what yours are. We want to get to know you so we can design the perfect tour just for you and your group. We want to get the details right. We want to know what type of accommodation you like, what type of food you want to try, do you have a favourite whisky and would you like a special tour of that distillery?
We always cover general history and culture on all our tours, but are there any specific periods in history that inspires you? It could be a figure from our colourful history, such as Robert The Bruce, Flora MacDonald, William Wallace, Lady Agnes Campbell, Bonnie Prince Charlie or St Margaret of Scotland to name a few. Literary figures are popular too including, Sir Walter Scott, J.K Rowling, Robert Louis Stevenson, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle the list goes on…
There is the city of Edinburgh, our beautiful capital. Maybe not as well known as Rome, Paris, Athens or Barcelona, but an absolute gem of smaller European cities. Edinburgh serves as the perfect introduction to Scotland – a medieval centre, which is perfect for exploring with many shops, restaurants, and bars, not to mention its numerous historic sights and attractions. We would always recommend at least two nights in Edinburgh before heading out into the Scottish Highlands and Islands – one of the most beautiful and atmospheric places on our beautiful planet!
We do Scotland, and our other destinations, justice! We know routes, back roads and hidden gems that will literally take your breath away! We do visit the sights which have made Scotland famous (yes, Loch Ness is beautiful), and we know a fabulous viewpoint where you will be able to spot a monster (if you are lucky) all on your own!
We design your travel experience so to make your trip an unforgettable one. And we know what makes a trip unforgettable – the hidden gem. The ‘experience’ of authentic is what we are looking for, and when we get this, it pushes the trip into the realm / category of once-in-a-lifetime. This is the kind of trip we all want, and we are happy to say that James Campbell Tours, specially designed itineraries, have achieved this status. This is thanks to the cultural heritage, history and natural beauty of Scotland. But just as important are the people, and this starts with our guides. James, and our featured guides, bring the country to life with stories, anecdotes and comment on Scotland. We tell you the story of Scotland and add our unique slant and humour - well it is a vacation after all! We are so lucky to get know people from all over the world, it is one of the things that we love most about tourism. We now have friends across Europe, The Americas, Asia and Australia and that is special.
Larger group tours do have a place in tourism, but after the effects of Covid-19, we think more people will be looking at private travel as an alternative. The main obstacle for private touring is the cost. There is no getting away from it, it is more expensive than a mid-market coach, or small coach tour. But maybe not that much more than some of the well-known 5-star coach tours. We can tell you that a private tour with us, costs almost the same as the higher end coach tours. We also include those unique visits to the most interesting places, but you are doing them with your own little group – a much more pleasurable experience.
We are working hard to make private travel an experience for all and we look forward to hearing from you. We will work with you, work to your budget, so to deliver that once-in-a-lifetime experience.
